EDUCATION

The education crisis for our kids is as real as a destructive tornado. We can’t achieve growth and prosperity without a highly educated citizenry. It’s immoral that 80% of our students – that’s around 550,000 young people – aren’t proficient in reading. The government-run model of education built and run by the radical left isn’t working. To fix our education we need to take the following steps immediately:

  • We need to put $200 million into a Reading Sufficiency Program that helps all students, who are not reading at grade level, catch up with an individual improvement plan that is implemented with paid tutors. School principals and superintendents need to have direct oversight of these kids and be held responsible for the lack of significant improvement.

  • For superintendents, we need to reframe the standards and criteria to be a superintendent to weed out those who adhere to the woke tenets of liberalism which has undermined and destroyed public education in this state. Maybe then I won’t have to fear my grandkids coming home asking my adult kids why Johnny is all of a sudden using the girl’s bathroom, or why HE or SHE has to use the pronoun “they” so someone doesn’t get their feelings hurt.

  • We need fundamental transformation for school boards and superintendents in Oklahoma by shifting school board elections to general election dates so the whole public is engaged instead of only far-left activists.

  • Parents must be in charge of education for their children. Be it public, charter, or private schools, the parent of each child knows best for their child.  Florida and Arizona are great examples of school choice freedom that have improved outcomes and changed the lives of thousands of students for the better. The lies you’ve heard about killing rural schools are not a reality in those states.

  • Now excellence requires money and keeping pace with the competition, but just throwing money at a problem doesn’t work without high standards, accountability, and transparency. We must insist on more rigorous teacher training at our colleges that train teachers in best practices not just in subject matter expertise. We must demand more of our schools even as we provide them with more resources. Education outcomes must be a metric by which schools, superintendents, and teachers are held accountable – not seniority or institutional influence.

  • High moral behavior and ethics must be brought back into the classroom. The founders of our great country never meant for our schools to be religious-free zones. They were nearly all Bible-believing Christians, who didn’t want the government dictating which Christian religion to follow, as was the case in England. Once secularists got religion removed from the schools with a faulty narrative of the 1st amendment, there has been a growing vacuum of morals and ethics in our schools. Cheating, drug usage, and bullying are rampant. Students are bereft of a foundation of good moral behavior and the results are mental health problems and increasing suicides. To fight the moral irrelevance of the woke left and bring integrity, excellence, and honor back to local school districts, I will personally get involved in school board races to help get common sense conservatives elected who want to fight for change.
